Pale Horse

When the judge dips his hands in holy water
And the soldiers cast lots for his robe
The gavel pounds nails in the cross
And the oxen must bear a heavy yoke

But I wouldn’t hitch my wagon
To that pale horse
Another spectator in this gladiator sport
To watch reinvented wheels run way off course
Another laid to rest in remorse

When the king smells blood in the water
And the soldiers make ready for war
The scepter is stored in the quiver
And is stretched on the cavalry’s bow

But I wouldn’t hitch my wagon
To that pale horse
Another spectator in this gladiator sport
To watch reinvented wheels run way off course
Another laid to rest in remorse

If it happened once it’s likely to repeat
This time the citizens will have the best seats
History happens once and then it might repeat
This time I won’t be found cheering from my seat

Oh I wouldn’t hitch my wagon
To that pale horse
Another spectator in this gladiator sport
To watch reinvented wheels run way off course
Another laid to rest in remorse
