Divided Affections
There’s a man whose eyes are heavy
’Cause he can’t seem to weather the storm
The clouds in his head keep pouring rain
Down on the floor
He wonders if the sun will ever shine again
Like when he was young
Before the night fell on him
And ever since he’s been on the run
Divided affections
Tell me where we go from here
You’ve got my attention
Can you help take me there
He hears his past calling
But it’s only in one of his ears
The future’s not talking much
But even so it’s too hard to hear
Because he hears the past screaming
That he’s stuck in the middle ground
Between the things that he can’t live up to
And all that he won’t live down
Divided affections
Tell me where we go from here
You’ve got my attention
Can you help take me there
A man can only serve a single master
A kingdom only has a single king
And where a war is fought for his affections
The choice he makes determines who will win
The heart of man’s a battle for his love
The throne can only fit a single king
And every head that doesn’t wear the crown
Has no meaningful authority
Divided affections
Tell me where we go from here
You’ve got my attention
Can you help take me there
Tell me where we go from here
Can you help take me there
